Progressing into looking at how man made structures can be captured and shown to change and develop. The obvious answer is different times of the day and how the light changes the look ogthe building. Look at the work of fong Qi way as an example of a photographer that does this and then combines the images to make a new picture. Choose a location and then use a tripod to take images of it at different times of the day.

Link your experiments with altering the film and negatives physically with the Pictorialists of the late 19th century who worked into the emulsion on the plate glass prints to create a one off. Photograph similar subjects but alter them with contemporary materials- the more synthetic in appearance the better. Visit the website: cool girls shoot film for different ways to alter your prints. Explore colour, digital and film.

Continue to develop your ideas looking at more experimentations that you can put your negs through. Consider shooting some colour film and changing it befor you put in in to be developed. You need to consider what it is you want to photograph if you want to start looking at urban environments where are you going to go?
Consider looking at the pockets of green spaces within the urban environment shoot on digital and film print out and then look at way the urban environment could impact on your pictures as a metaphor for the impact the urban has on nature.

- Explore filming people's responses to the images of people you have photographed.
- Set up camera, tripod and white background. Film mode on camera
- Compose the viewfinder with the person sitting more to the right of the frame.
- Show the person one of your portraits on the laptop and ask them to give their opinion. Prompt them at the end by alluding to the comment they made when you spoke to them . eg. would you expect him to be able to speak four different languages.
- Print the images- invite people to write their comments on it.
- More photographs- polaroids? people can write on it there and then.

You must make sure that all the sections show clear development and have links to the visual practise of other photographers. Create visual brainstorms for key sections and create artist and me sections showing clear links. At present you jump from long exposure of people in the city to straight portraits why have you done this you must explain. Upload the images from waterloo station and make it clear for the examiner that it was at this point you started to point the camera at individuals in front of the camera and talk to them. Each section must be clearly labelled and describe how you have moved from section to section. print screen your book and upload each page
14/12/16
Develop the idea of the peopell of London linked to the people of newyork. Consider your location
covent garden
kings cross
bourough market
Places that are diverse and have lots of people in the areas. Make sure that the colour is strong and stands out also make sure your camera is set befor you approch people set your appeture low to get greater depth of field the background bluring and the total focus on the people.
1/12/16
Continue to capture the idea of flux within the city focusing on the stations streets ect and where possible try to capture moments of stillness within the frame. Consider the idea of creating movement giffs that capture the long exposure movement but at key points slow down almost to a stand still and then speed up again.
As well as capturing the public consider placing a figure within the places that standsout and looks directly at the camera they could be dres in a colour such as red yellow but will stand out agaist the blur of people constanly moving around
Hana Vojáĉková. red ballon as an example of colour standing out

Upload the work taken over half term the work taken on the tube is good but I feel you need to get closer to the subject as well as looking at their faces experiment by focussing on different parts of their body (see the example of past student minnie Baker Samson) upload individual films alongside each other.
Half Term:
During the crit it was decided that buses and trains are a good source for photography also, there needs to be a clearer reference to the city. Look at the street photography of Matt Stuart to develop your strand of people abstracted in thought in the context of the city http://www.mattstuart.com/photography/ (see right) |
11/10/16-
Complete all suggested ideas since 28/9.
Also consider several different types of Londoners and capture them in their 'habitats'/ Eg commuters, skaters, dog walkers.... More variety in the type of person and the way you photograph them. More images within a series that place the individual in London.

Two possible ways to develop the project
1) Surveillance watching people without their knowledge look at the work of Minnie Baker Samson particularly her tube series look also at the work of Walker evans and the Bruce Davidson subway project .
http://minniebaker.weebly.com/practical-response.html
2) Look at the work of saul letter his use of obstructions, blurred movement and half-concealed details. Experiment with playing with shallow depths of field and capture people on the street going about their everyday life but try to capture a mixture of portraits but also concealed identity

Need foam board- speak to MIllie
Cut shapes of her out of herself (!)
Stencils (!) Check with tech. Cake cutters, fridge magnets.
Exam- Wednesday 20th April in N5.
Make sure your annotation covers your intentions, discusses what went well, even better if and what is next. Make links to a photographer, discuss how you have taken inspiration but taken this and developed it in a more personal way.

The theme that I am investigating for the exam is:
Capturing movement
To develop my ideas further I need to:
Photograph:
Isolated movement of the figure- Photograph dancers, male and female...
Cut away and either keep the negative or positive.
Photograph the shape that is left in front of a light, projecting shadows etc,
Could these be developed onto light boxes or hanging cut outs? Layered cut out figures or stagger them across a floor.
(A successful project should have at least 6-8 sets or stages of development since you chose your preferred strand. Do you have to organise a particular shoot, studio time or borrow a particular piece of equipment to be able to photograph the images you need?)
Research:
Myriam Dion- Current photos and leaf shapes
David Adey- carefully cut shapes away
Odette England- digital shapes, same shape repeated -
Gianna Paniagua Natural Formations_
(Do you need to find a relevant photographer to support your current development? Do you need to recap your development through a ‘development trail’ or ‘artist and me review’- see below? Is there a relevant exhibition?)
Annotate:
Make sure all annotation is complete.
(Annotate all set tasks, clearly linking them to the exam theme. For the development of your own themes make sure you clearly state your intentions, How it either links to the theme or you previous development, what went well, even better if and what is next)

Complete pin hole image for transformation of the camera Up load exhibition work review and the pictures that you took. Developments consider two different paths Body abstraction - look at the work of Bill brandt and experiment transforming the body into an object. Body projection - consider how you can project art/locations/colour onto the body to transform its meaning this could link back into the idea of the body being a canvas (your tattoo work) look at the work of Davis Ayer. Also look at the work of Zhang Huan you could consider the idea of the art growing over the body and photograph it as it does so creating a giff of the process. |

End of year target grade: B Project grade: B An excellent start to the course however, when you have studied a subject before it's very easy to make assumptions about what we know about your knowledge. It is crucial that your analysis, annotation and descriptions of techniques etc have breadth and depth. See your PLC for more specific prompts. |
